Tumpek Landep is a Balinese festival that is held to give thanks to the Gods in charge of Art and all creative expressions. On this festival, the offerings and prayers are made to musical instruments, shadow puppets, and Barongs. Additionally, shadow puppet and musical plays are also performed for the celebration.
Balinese born during the week of Wayang will undergo a purification ritual, locally referred to as “Melukat” or “Ruwatan”, this is because the Balinese believe those born during Wayang week will be under the wrath of Lord Kala, unless the Melukat ritual is performed, along with the Wayang Sapuh Leger performance.
This culture-rich festival is also called “Odalan Wayang” or the birthday of Wayang, held every 210 days, the next Tumpek Wayang falls on December 31, 2016.
We have incorporated the festival into a couple of our special new year’s tours, take a look and join us for an unforgettable Balinese New Year experience!
